Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has launched a four-week trial of the Dubai Glydways automated transit system at Bluewaters. The programme is testing autonomous electric vehicles operating on dedicated guideways, marking an early operational assessment rather than the opening of a permanent public network.

The RTA will use the trial to examine safety, reliability, operational performance and passenger experience before making any decisions on a broader deployment. That approach is relevant to buyers and investors because transport infrastructure can influence how easily residents move between homes, workplaces, retail areas and leisure destinations—but the Bluewaters test does not confirm future service levels, routes or timelines.

The authority is also studying potential connections to Metro stations and locations including Jumeirah Village Circle, Business Bay, Dubai Festival City and Mohammed Bin Rashid City. These areas are among the districts commonly considered by apartment buyers, particularly those weighing access to established business hubs and public transport. However, the links are proposed options under review, not confirmed expansions.

For residential decision-making, the trial offers a practical indication that Dubai continues to evaluate first- and last-mile mobility solutions alongside its established transport network. If future studies lead to deployment, dedicated autonomous pod systems could potentially complement Metro access and reduce reliance on short car journeys within connected communities.

For now, buyers should view the Bluewaters programme as a smart-mobility pilot and assess properties on today’s available transport, road access and walkability. The trial’s findings will be the key reference point for any subsequent rollout decisions.
